THE EUROPE EXAM
On May 9, 2017, celebrating the Europe Day, every inhabitant of Latvia is invited to pass the Europe exam.Last year, the Europe exam was taken by 12 000 members and pupils of grades 7-9 were the most active participants. The results obtained show that the primary schools students′ knowledge on the European Union is better than high school students’ and adults’ – nearly a quarter of pupils from grades 5-9 got the maximum number of points and earned valuable prizes. So this year, we particularly encourage high school students and adults to participate in the Europe exam, demonstrate their knowledge and get prizes!
On May 9, exam could be taken from 8:00 to 21:00, logging into a website www.esmaja.lv and selecting the appropriate age group: grade 5-6, grade 7-9, high school or adult. The website www.esmaja.lv contains materials to help you prepare for the Europe exam.
Telling about the events taking place this spring in Latvian schools, Inna Šteinbuka, manager of the European Commission representation in Latvia, highlights: "In March we celebrate 60 years since the signing of the Treaty of Rome or laying a cornerstone of the European Union and celebrate the 30th anniversary of well-known educational program Erasmus. Those numbers involuntary may lead students to the impression that the European Union is something eternal, unshakable and self-evident. It is not, and also future success depends on today′s work, our attitudes, knowledge, and desire to build a better Europe and Latvia. Ask, understand and participate – here are my wishes for everyone! "
The slogan of the Europe exam this year is "Be the director of your life!", urging to explore, participate and influence events going around, co-building Latvia, Europe and the world.
