MEMBERSHIP: EUROPEAN SCHOOL OF SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE AND RESEARCH (ESSSR)
On August 1, 2025. EKA joined ESSS as a Regular Member. ESSSR (https://esssr.eu/) is an inter-university consortium composed by members which share an interest on sustainability science and on matters related to sustainable development. It is a key organization, filling in a gap in respect of the coordination of sustainability science teaching and research at European universities seen today.
The members benefit from a research infrastructure dedicated to advancing sustainability research in Europe. With over 80 members, ESSSR is the largest network on sustainability research in Europe. Since it was set-up in 2019, ESSSR has successfully secured a wide range of research projects, whose volume is in excess of Euro 20 million. Also, ESSSR members, together with members of its international twin, the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP), have published over 60 papers in high-calibre journals.

2025. October 10-11. EKA researchers Jelena Titko, Kristīne Užule and Natālija Cudečka-Puriņa participated in the Symposium "Universities, Cities, and Sustainable Development: Collaborative Pathways for a Sustainable Future" with co-authors Valerija Kozlova and Anna Manakova with the presentation “SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES AND ACTIVITIES IN THE BALTIC UNIVERSITITES”.
The Symposium took place at the University of Latvia and explored the dynamic collaboration between universities and cities, focusing on how these partnerships drive sustainable urban development and contribute to global sustainability goals. European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR) was among the Symposium organisers.
